
Robert Woods, founder and director of Speech and Hearing Associates (SHA), headquartered in Westfield, NJ, celebrated 50 years in practice as of January 2019. Established in 1969, SHA has grown to nine offices in eight counties (Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, and Union). Robert has been recognized for demonstrating the highest professional standards of integrity and ethical principles in the execution of clinical services, and was awarded “Honors of the Association” from NJSHA. Robert’s mission is and always has been patient care. He has always said to his staff, “take care of your patient the best way possible and everything else will fall in place.”
Dr. Woods received his Master and Ph.D. degrees from Purdue University. He was Professor of Audiology for nine years and Adjunct Professor for seven years in the Graduate School at Columbia University. He was Adjunct Clinical Professor of Audiology at The College of New Jersey and is currently Adjunct Professor in the Doctoral Program in Audiology at Montclair State University. He has lectured extensively in the United States and as invited lecturer in Great Britain, Germany and the former Yugoslavia on topics ranging from Diagnostic Audiology to Hearing Aid Fitting and Dispensing.
Dr. Woods has been elected to serve several terms on the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Speech Language and Hearing Association and has served as Chair of the Audiology Committee and Chair of the Ethics Committee. He currently serves on the Executive Council of the New Jersey Academy of Audiology. He has been elected from New Jersey to serve as Legislative Counselor to the American Speech and Hearing Association and has served on their Health Care Economics Committee. Dr. Woods has served as adviser to industry, insurance companies, school districts as well as health and governmental agencies.
