Audiology Services Florham Park
Our diagnostic audiology services are designed for children and adults ranging in age from “new-born” to “mature.” Unlike other commercial hearing aid and audiology centers, our audiologists are expert in evaluating children and adults whose hearing is difficult to assess due to various neurological, developmental, or other conditions.
We successfully assess the hearing of children on the autism spectrum, with pervasive developmental disability, Downs Syndrome and various other conditions. We receive referrals from developmental pediatricians, otoneurologists, pediatricians, neurologists, otolaryngologists, and over 70 school districts. We work closely with the NJ Division of Disability Determinations, NJ Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, and Spectrum for Living. Many of our adult patients have hearing loss due to a lifetime of recreational and/or occupational noise exposure, the natural aging process (presbycusis), head trauma, or other diseases or injuries. In addition to assessing the function of the peripheral auditory system (outer, middle, and inner ear) we routinely assess (central) auditory processing ability. Our audiology services include (central) auditory processing assessment, educational audiology, evoked potential testing, forensic audiology, comprehensive peripheral auditory evaluation (including air/bone pure tone thresholds, tympanometry, otoacoustic emissions testing, signal to noise assessment, speech discrimination testing, comfortable and uncomfortable loudness measurement), infant hearing screening, and occupational audiology.
Hearing Aids Florham Park
Our hearing aid services begin with an assessment of how your hearing loss is affecting your ability to communicate, how it is affecting your social life, your interaction with family members, and your work performance. We find that hearing aids are not for everyone. However, learning how to enjoy a great quality of life despite hearing limitations is an important resource our audiologists can provide for your benefit.
If hearing aids are the answer, we are not locked in to one or two brands. We specialize in the patient who complains that they can “hear, but not understand, especially when there is background noise.” We understand “both sides of the story” when the spouse says, “s/he hears what she wants to hear” and the response “you don’t have to shout, just get the marbles out of your mouth.” We have a wide selection of major manufacturers and models to fit your specific hearing needs and your budget, including Phonak, Siemens, Starkey, Oticon, and Widex. We offer free demonstrations with “demo” hearing aids as well as traditional hearing aid trial periods. Our audiologists have an average of 13 years of experience and are “up-to-date” with the latest technology. While we are very familiar with Blue Tooth and all the other “bells and whistles,” we also understand that all of the technology is not needed by everyone. We are also happy to help you with hearing aid repairs and hearing aid batteries.
One of the things that really set us apart from other hearing aid dispensers is that we work hand in hand with our speech-language pathology colleagues. Recent research clearly shows that just fitting a patient with a hearing aid is not always enough. Some patients benefit tremendously with short-term auditory training, auditory memory training, speech reading and other forms of aural rehabilitation. Medicare and most other insurance carriers will cover aural rehabilitation conducted by a speech-language pathologist.
Speech Therapy Florham Park
Our NJ licensed and nationally certified speech-language pathologists (also known as speech therapists or SLPs) evaluate and treat a wide range of speech and language disorders among both children and adults. Evaluations and therapy are covered by Medicare for adults over age 65 and by most commercial plans for younger adults and children. Typically, we see children as early as 18 months of age, and adults at any age. Our friendly and helpful staff will help you determine if you have coverage for our services and help guide you through the process. We routinely evaluate and treat children and adults with delayed speech and language, indistinct or unclear speech, aphasia, apraxia, articulation/phonological disorder, central auditory processing disorder, language processing disorder, cleft palate, cognitive-communication disorder, fluency (stuttering) disorder, laryngectomy, neurogenic disorder, swallowing disorder (dysphagia) and tongue thrust. Our SLPs have experience working with children with selective mutism, autism, pragmatic language weakness, hearing impairments, and other communicative challenges. We also work with adults who would like to eliminate or modify foreign accents. Many of our experienced speech-language pathologists also speak languages other than English, including Creole, French, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian.
