What is a Social Communication Group?

Speech & Hearing Associates has developed an engaging social communication program for children of all ages. Group sessions are led by a skilled speech-language pathologist for small communication groups of up to five children. The groups target individual treatment goals within a group setting and focus specifically on social thinking, emotions, conversational skills, and social interactions.

What Does the Curriculum Look Like?

Each social communication group follows a targeted yearlong curriculum focusing on developing and practicing an extensive variety of social skills and topics. The dynamic curriculum consists of six individual units and adjustments are made as appropriate, depending on the group members’ ages and needs. Each participant receives a social story every week on the lesson being targeted. Stories are great for carryover and generalization into everyday settings. Participants are carefully placed in a group that best suits their needs according to diagnosis, level of behavioral and social strengths and weaknesses, age, and gender. In addition, participants will be guided so they can use the skills learned during the sessions and integrate them successfully into their daily activities.
